Erskine Open 2012 brings alumni and friends together

The 38th annual Erskine Open golf tournament, scheduled to complement Alumni Weekend activities, drew about 72 players to Hunter’s Creek Golf and Country Club in Greenwood Friday, April 27.

First place in the tournament, decided by a scorecard playoff, went to winning foursome Patrick Davenport ’90, Ralph Lundy, Patrick Wilson ’11, and Ricky Wright ’81 with a score of 58. They received the Vardon Trophy 2012 (donated by Men’s Tennis Coach Vardon Cox ’64) as well as $100 gift certificates to the Hunter’s Creek Golf Shop.
Second place winners, also with a score of 58, were Chandler Bradford, Jim Bradford ’71, Skip Goley ’71 and Bob Thompson ’71. They received $50 gift certificates to Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Several contests of skill were conducted, with Bob Thompson hitting the longest drive, Charles Malcolm leading the closest-to-pin competition, and Steve Rimmer ’61 winning the putting contest.
Funds from the tournament help defray the cost of the Erskine Athletic Hall of Fame banquet, held every other year at homecoming.
