Ensemble Chaconne comes to Erskine Thursday, Feb. 6

Ensemble Chaconne posterThe internationally acclaimed Ensemble Chaconne will perform Measure for Measure: The Music of Shakespeare’s Plays at Erskine College Thursday, Feb. 6, at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall. Admission is $5 per person, free with Erskine I.D. Convocation credit will be available.

The concert program offers a view of the music Shakespeare’s audiences would have heard, including anonymous tunes of the period and music by the leading composers of Shakespeare’s day, including Thomas Morley, Robert Johnson, and John Dowland.

In addition to the evening concert, Ensemble Chaconne will offer a lecture-demonstration titled “As They Liked It: Musical Instruments and Performing Styles of Shakespeare’s Time” Thursday, Feb. 6, at 3:30 p.m., also in Memorial Hall.

Ensemble Chaconne, now in its 28th season, has performed in Europe as well as in the United States and throughout North America. Members include Peter H. Bloom, Renaissance flute, Carol Lewis, viola da gamba, and Olav Chris Henriksen, Renaissance lute, with Pamela Dellal, mezzo-soprano, guest artist.

Ensemble Chaconne, managed by Americas Musicworks, Somerville, Mass., comes to Erskine as part of this year’s Fine Arts Series.
