Alumni Day set for April 23
Alumni Weekend 2016 at Erskine College will offer alumni a chance to reconnect with friends and classmates on the Due West campus Saturday, April 23.
“We’re looking for a fun-filled day for alumni and their families,” Director of Alumni Affairs Buddy Ferguson said.
For the first time in recent years, alumni will be able to enjoy Fleet athletic contests on Alumni Day, with men’s and women’s tennis matches and a baseball doubleheader scheduled.
He noted that lunch tables and lunch ticket sales will be set up under the towers this year. “So at the end of the Alumni Association meeting, we will move directly to lunch under the towers,” he said.
For early risers, the 24th Annual Red Eye Run is set for 8 a.m. at the Ellenburg Pavilion. Registration and coffee on the Erskine Mall begin at 9 a.m. The Alumni Association Meeting follows at 10 a.m. in Lesesne Auditorium. Awards will be presented to alumni and friends at the meeting.
A children’s train as well as inflatables for all ages will be set up near the Ellenburg Pavilion from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Athletic events throughout the day, in addition to men’s and women’s tennis matches and a baseball doubleheader, include a men’s basketball alumni game and men’s and women’s soccer matches.
Class meetings are planned for the early afternoon, and social gatherings for the following classes are scheduled during the afternoon and evening: 1961, 1966 (50th reunion), 1971, 1991, 1996, and 2011.
A reception in honor of Dr. Harry Stille, recipient of an Award of Excellence in Visual and Performing Arts, is set for 3-5 p.m. in the Bowie Arts Center, with the award presentation at 4 p.m. Stille’s works will be displayed from Alumni Day through commencement. Sales proceeds will be donated to Erskine.
