‘Lines of Light’ exhibit opens with reception Tuesday

screen-shot-2016-11-14-at-11-28-59-amBowie Arts Center Director Ruth Burton has announced that Professor of Psychology Dr. Robert Elsner is curating a show called “Lines of Light” which will be on display for the remainder of the fall semester. The exhibit opens with a reception Tuesday, Nov. 15, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Bowie Arts Center.

Elsner says the exhibit “explores the lines of inspiration, the lines of thought, and the lines of passion that God places in our hearts.” He developed the show with the participation of members of the Erskine and Due West communities. The show came together thanks to volunteers, “participants from all disciplines and backgrounds, and from all connections to the college, seminary, and town” who were assigned an artwork and sent a photograph of that artwork, Elsner said.

Volunteers were asked to name a song or line of a song, a verse or line of poetry or other literature, or a verse of scripture they were inspired to remember when viewing their assigned artwork. Participants were also asked to explain  the relationship between the work of art they were assigned and the literature they remembered in response to it.
