Homecoming festivities set for Oct. 1-2

Erskine’s Homecoming 2021 celebration begins Friday, Oct. 1, with highlights to include the Erskine Open Golf Tournament Friday afternoon, a pep rally Friday evening, a Color Run Saturday morning, a vendor fair with “Authors, Artists, and Artisans” Saturday morning, a presentation of the homecoming court during halftime of the football game Saturday afternoon, and a carnival Saturday evening.

Registration for the Color Run opens at 7:30 a.m. at the Ellenburg Pavilion. Homecoming registration begins at 9 a.m. outside the alumni house on Washington Street, with light refreshments offered. Campus Ministries will offer a time of worship on the Mall beginning at 9 a.m.

In addition to Saturday’s football game against Virginia University of Lynchburg, several athletic events are scheduled for Friday and Saturday. The campus bookstore will be open from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, with a book signing by McDonald-Boswell Assistant Professor of History Dr. John Harris planned for 11 a.m. The Bowie Arts Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stories at the Student Cabin will be offered at 10:30 a.m.

Other events this year include “Give Our Regards to Broadway: A Memorial Display for Walter Hicklin III” in Reid Hall; a tour of the “Parramore Indoor Golf Facility in Honor of Joyce Owens Ramsey, Class of 1959”; and “Murder, Missing Mummies, and Memories: A Walking Tour of Campus.”

A carnival, starting at 6 p.m. on Robinson Field, will complete the Homecoming fun and will feature food trucks, a Ferris wheel, rides, games, and more.
