Profile
Dr. Cameron McClure is a Licensed Professional Counselor and educator with professional experience in counseling, behavioral health leadership, clinical supervision, and higher education. Working in the clinical space for more than a decade prior to academia, he focused his career on substance use treatment. He has a passion for providing holistic integrated care to clients and working to provide a stigma-free environment that will be conducive to healing.
Education & Experience
McClure earned his Doctor of Education in Community Care and Counseling with a specialization in Pastoral Counseling from Liberty University. His doctoral research examined the relationship between shame, medication-assisted treatment outcomes, and the therapeutic alliance in substance use treatment.
McClure has worked extensively in behavioral health and counseling settings, serving in both clinical and administrative roles that include direct clinical care, program development, clinical leadership, supervision, and consultation. His professional interests encompass counseling theory and practice, addictions and recovery, therapeutic alliance, shame and stigma, trauma-informed care, pastoral counseling, and the integration of faith and mental health.
Vocational & Teaching Philosophy
Central to his vocational calling is the conviction that faith should be thoughtfully, ethically, and extensively integrated into a holistic counseling approach informed by a Christian worldview—one that attends to the whole person by considering spiritual, emotional, cognitive, relational, behavioral, physical, and cultural dimensions of human experience. He views this integration not as the imposition of beliefs, but as a compassionate and clinically responsible practice that respects each individual’s values, dignity, autonomy, and cultural context while recognizing how meaning, purpose, hope, grace, community, and spiritual formation may contribute to healing and flourishing.
As a faculty member, Dr. McClure is passionate about preparing students to become competent, ethical, and compassionate helping professionals whose work connects academic theory and research with practical clinical application. His teaching emphasizes critical thinking, professional identity, ethical decision-making, relational skills, and the integration of Christian theology and spiritual resources with evidence-informed counseling practices. He seeks to help students understand not only the techniques of counseling, but also the importance of the counselor’s character, presence, humility, and relationship with those they serve, encouraging them to approach counseling as both a professional responsibility and a calling to offer whole-person care grounded in Christian compassion, wisdom, and respect.
Personal Interests
McClure has been married to his college sweetheart since 2010, and they have two children. Fun fact: McClure and his wife met while cheering together in college. Born and raised in the Upstate of S.C., McClure attends Rock Springs Baptist Church in Easley, where he enjoys volunteering with the youth and young adults and has spent the last 15 years in the puppet ministry.
Outside of his professional and ministry commitments, McClure enjoys spending time with his family and serving his church and community.
