Join Erskine College for a special celebration of America’s 250th anniversary on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at the historic Salem Black River Presbyterian Church near Mayesville, South Carolina.

Co-sponsored by Salem Black River Presbyterian Church, Sumter 250, Sumter Museum, and the Charter Institute at Erskine, this commemorative event will honor the American Revolution through inspiring readings and musical performances. Following the program, there will be an outdoor celebration with light refreshments and activities for all ages.

Founded in 1759 by Scotch-Irish settlers, Salem Black River Presbyterian Church traces its roots to the years leading up to the American Revolution. The congregation served a community shaped by the events of the Revolution, making it a meaningful setting for a celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. The present brick church, built in 1846, continues the legacy of one of the region’s oldest Presbyterian congregations.
