Profile
Dr. Jeff Briggs brings more than 30 years of higher education experience and over two decades of business ownership and management to the Erskine College School of Business. He earned his PhD in Sport Administration from Florida State University in 1999; His teaching and research focus has been in the areas of finance, management, and leadership in both business and the sport profession; And his work experiences are in the areas of management, finance, development, and facility operations in both the sport profession and the nonprofit sectors.
Professional Experience
Briggs has written more than 150 articles, instructional manuals and research publications and has delivered more than 120 presentations worldwide, including contributions to the 2nd and 3rd editions of the Encyclopedia of Sport Management.
Raised in an enterprising and entrepreneurial home, Briggs has followed in those steps and has owned or co-owned several businesses, including a wellness center, a bowling business, and a consulting practice. He has also consulted on business and sport projects both domestically and internationally including within the countries of Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, and India. Highlights of his experience:
• CEO, start-up of two wellness centers in the Southeast, leading capital fundraising and construction.
• Director, Albany, GA YMCA, overseeing operations and finances for 6,000 members.
• CFO, Legacy Church Global (10 years), completing a capital campaign and a major campus revitalization project.
• Business Consultant (25 years), advising business, nonprofit organizations, and sport entrepreneurs on finance, operations and executive leadership.
Personal Interests
Briggs and his family reside in Taylors, SC; His oldest daughter is a college senior while his youngest daughter and son attend area high schools. After serving over a decade at Legacy Church as the CFO of the ministry, Dr. Briggs currently attends Redemption Ministry in Greenville, SC, while having enjoyed ministry in areas including hospitality, usher/greeter, men’s ministry, and of course all things finance. He enjoys gardening and considers himself an avid grower; Exercising at a nearby Crunch Fitness; Mentoring men and women who want more out of business, life, and their walk with God.
