A.B., Erskine College (’93); M.Div., Reformed Theological Seminary; D.Min., Erskine Theological Seminary

External Relations at Erskine College and Seminary focuses on four key constituent segments: church, government, corporate, and special interest groups. In his role, Dr. Kyle Sims works to promote Erskine across all four spheres of influence, partnering closely with both the Advancement and Admissions offices to strengthen relationships and expand the institution’s reach.

Profile

Dr. Kyle Sims has devoted his life to serving the church, his community, and the next generation of pastors. After graduating from Erskine College with a B.A. in History, he earned his M.Div. from Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte and later completed his D.Min. at Erskine Theological Seminary.

Ordained in the Associate Reformed Presbyterian (ARP) Church in 1999, Sims served as Pastor of First ARP Church in Lancaster, South Carolina, for nearly 18 years. During those years, he also served the city as Chaplain to the Lancaster City Fire Department (2006–2023), experiences that deepened his love for people and his commitment to practical, everyday ministry.

Within the ARP Church, Sims has held several leadership roles, including Vice-Moderator of the General Synod (2018–2019). He now serves as the denomination’s Principal Clerk, helping guide and support its administrative and organizational work.

Beyond his denominational responsibilities, Sims serves as Senior Policy Advisor for the National Clergy Council. He also invests in future pastors as an adjunct professor of preaching at Erskine Theological Seminary. He is the founder and editor of Seventeen82.com, where he writes on pastoral life and theology. He is a monthly contributor to the website Gentle Reformation.

Sims is married to Kelly Counts Sims ’95. Together, they enjoy life with their four children, son-in-law, and grandchild, who keep them both busy and grateful.
