After graduating with a B.A. in English from Anderson College, Shane Bradley started his professional life as a funeral director. During that brief period, he completed his Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in English from Lander University before beginning a career in public education. He earned his M.Ed. in Administration and Supervision from Clemson University while serving as an English teacher at Dixie High School in Due West, South Carolina, where he was twice honored as Teacher of the Year. With over twenty-five years’ experience teaching high school English, he remains a National Board Certified Teacher. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Anderson University.
Prior to his current role as Dean of Academic Administration at Erskine College, he served as Assistant Professor of English and Erskine’s Director of the Writing Program and Quality Enhancement Plan. He previously worked as an adjunct instructor of English at Anderson University, and he served twenty years as a member of the Due West Town Council and fifteen years as a member of the Due West Volunteer Fire Department. He is a member of Due West ARP Church.
Publications & Awards
Bradley has won several fiction awards, including the Fast Company short story contest and the Family Living fiction contest, and he is a two-time winner of the South Carolina Fiction Project. His fiction and nonfiction have appeared in The (Charleston) Post and Courier, Sandlapper Magazine, Family Living Magazine, Fast Company Magazine, Inside AnMed Health, The Press and Banner, and LitBits (Macmillan). He published a collection of short stories entitled Walking in the Shadow: Stories of Life, Death, and the Southern Funeral Home (2016) and contributed to State of the Heart: South Carolina Writers on the Places They Love (2013), where he had the distinct honor of working with the late Pat Conroy. Bradley continues to write fiction as time allows.
Personal Interests
His family is very important to him, and when he isn’t spending his free time with his wife, son, daughter, and son-in-law, he enjoys riding his unicycle, traveling, camping, and collecting vintage Star Wars memorabilia with his children.
