RUF at Erskine closes out spring with “Barn-K” event

A few dozen of the 100-plus Barn-K participants gather before the race.

When Erskine Chaplain Paul Patrick decided to add some fun to this semester’s last Sunday night meeting of RUF (Reformed University Fellowship), he figured that maybe 10 or 15 people would take him up on his invitation to a friendly fitness event preceding the meeting.

So, a few weeks in advance, he announced that students were invited to run or walk the 3.698 miles from the Erskine campus to “The Barn” just outside Due West, where RUF meets. He called the distance a “Barn-K.”

Patrick was way off on the numbers. More than 100 participants signed up and showed up for the event April 29.

Erskine students have been gathering at “The Barn,” located on the property where Patrick lives with his wife Marie and their four children, for supper, singing and Bible study on Sunday afternoons since 2003.

Patrick’s most recent study series, “Sanctification,” concluded Sunday, and the evening was celebrated as Senior Night at the Barn.

Assisting Patrick this year are RUF interns Zack Keuthan ’11 and his wife Elly Keuthan.
