Ford Blanchard ’15, a summa cum laude graduate in Business Administration and former member of the Flying Fleet Men’s Golf Team, will be playing in the 102nd Carolinas Amateur Championship in Charleston July 14-17.

Blanchard, who served as SGA treasurer and was one of two recipients of Erskine’s 2015 Distinguished Service Award, was recently interviewed by Orangeburg Times & Democrat sports editor Chris Clark.

Described in the article as “a veteran in the amateur ranks,” Blanchard is club champion at Orangeburg Country Club. He also led the Gamecock club golf team to the National Collegiate Club Golf Association (NCCGA) spring national title in April.

He explained to the Times & Democrat how he wound up on the Gamecock club golf team. It happened when he was a graduate student at the University of South Carolina and was asked (by a Columbia accounting firm where he will soon be employed) to interview an intern candidate who was also attending USC. The candidate, who was being recruited by Blanchard on behalf of the firm, “ended up recruiting me to the club golf team,” he said.

Meanwhile, Blanchard’s participation in the Carolinas Amateur Championship will be a break from studying for the CPA exam. He will start his new job in August.
