Fourth Annual Erskine Flower & Garden Show Arrives May 16

The Fourth Annual Erskine Flower & Garden Show will take place on Saturday, May 16, from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on the campus of Erskine College. The event, held in partnership with the Abbeville Ag + Art Tour, will include a wide variety of hands-on gardening workshops and an extensive vendor fair with fun for the whole family. Admission is free.

A special feature of this year’s event will be a one-man presentation by Steve Clark entitled “Andre Michaux: The Forgotten French Botanist Who Courted Thomas Jefferson and Got Pulled into a Scandal.” Clark attended the University of South Carolina and is an SC Master Gardener and an SC State Master Naturalist.

Sample events scheduled include the Floral Flair – where visitors bring their own fresh flower arrangement to create an indoor flower garden in the Bowie Arts Center – a plant swap between guests, and a silent auction.

Workshops include:

Botanical Monoprints – Railey Banasky and June Roof ($15)

Dahlia Growing for Beginners – Melissa Smith, Fralick Farms

Growing Cold Hardy Citrus – Michael Turner, Horticulturist

Hydroponics: Grow with the Flow – Sandra Clavell, Master Gardener

Indicator Plants/Weeds – Hunter Taylor and Cateya Davis, Clemson Extension

Watercolor Bouquet – Railey Banasky and June Roof ($15)

Informational booth exhibitors include Clemson Extension, Erskine College Admissions, Greenwood Woodworkers Guild, Lakelands Master Gardeners, and the SC Botanical Garden.

Vendors (to be updated leading up to May 4th) currently include: Barrick Sister Crafts, Carolina Bamboo, Chickasaw Creek Farm, Due West of Diddly Squat, Fraylick Farms, Magnolia Garden Club, Next Generation, Normandia Blooms, Patricia Anne Garrett, Pawmetto Dog Training, Pond House Totes & Crossbody Bags, Sankofa Apothecary, Savannah’s Greenhouse, SC Botanical Garden, SC Governor’s School for Agriculture at John de la Howe, The Snobby Leaf, and Swartzentruber’s Bakery.

For children, the Abbeville County Library will be on hand, and the Greenwood Woodworkers Guild will have free handmade spinning tops for children.

Refreshments & food will be available from food trucks Just Brayz, and Sip and Smile.
