Join Erskine College for a special celebration of America’s 250th anniversary on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. at the historic Salem Black River Presbyterian Church.

Co-sponsored by Sumter 250, the Sumter Museum, and the Charter Institute at Erskine, this commemorative event will honor the American Revolution through inspiring readings and musical performances, including a special performance by the Erskine Choraleers. Following the program will be an outdoor reception at 4:30.

Founded in 1759 by Scotch-Irish settlers, Salem Black River Presbyterian Church traces its roots to the years leading up to the American Revolution. The congregation was established during the colonial period and served a community shaped by the events of the Revolution, making it a meaningful setting for a celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. The present brick church, built in 1846, continues the legacy of one of the region’s oldest Presbyterian congregations.
