Why did you decide to join the Honors Institute?

I decided to join the Honors Institute because I wanted a strong community of like-minded peers and to grow academically, spiritually, and mentally with others. This community is exactly what I wanted from college.

What is something specific about the Honors Institute you’ve enjoyed?

Honestly, everything. I am so blessed to have been accepted into this Institute and community, and I recommend it to anyone with a heart for God and a desire for growth. The professors’ doors are always open for a conversation about class or personal life. They have taken great care in choosing the texts for these classes.

In this program, you and your peers see each other as friends and never as competition. You will not only grow as a student and a person, but most importantly, as a Christian, with like-minded peers and professors cheering you on every single step of the way.

Why did you decide to join the Honors Institute?

I joined the Honors Institute so I could grow together with like-minded students and read a wide range of classic literature. Probably the most important thing about the Honors Institute is the mentorship you get from your professors and even your fellow students. You can sit down almost anytime with your professor and discuss a topic you need help with or just talk about life and look for career opportunities. If you want to reach your fullest potential, the Honors Institute is for you.

What is something specific about the Honors Institute you’ve enjoyed?

The most enjoyable thing about the Honors Institute is the very personal connections you get to make with the faculty and your fellow students. It is one big family.

Mattea Ruiter

Major: Digital Marketing
Hometown: Lynden, Wash.

Why did you decide to join the Honors Institute?

I decided to join the Honors Institute because it offered me the opportunity to engage in deeper discussions about advanced texts and topics and to view these works from the perspective of a Christian scholar.

What is something specific about the Honors Institute you’ve enjoyed?

I’ve sincerely enjoyed the pre- and post-class discussions with my peers regarding the texts we’ve read. Much hilarity has ensued, but underneath the ridiculousness, there have been very meaningful conversations that challenge all parties involved to think deeply about their positions and biases.
