Christmas tree ceremony brings students together

Lighted live Christmas tree outside Watkins Student Center

The lighting of a live Christmas tree highlighted a campus gathering hosted by the Student Development Office Monday evening.

“The Due West Lions Club donated a Christmas tree that was planted by facilities just outside Watkins Student Center,” Vice President for Student Success Dr. Wendi Santee said. “This provides a permanent Christmas tree for this annual tradition.”

Erskine President Dr. Robert Gustafson and first lady Beth Gustafson offered greetings at the event and led the countdown to the lighting of the tree. Sophomore Paul Lawing read the Christmas story from the Bible and the Chamber Singers led the crowd in singing Christmas carols.

A hot cocoa bar, soup bar, doughnuts, cookie decorating, Christmas crafts, an ugly sweater contest, and a free photo booth were offered. Students also wrote cards to military personnel as part of the celebration.
