Acclaimed British actor reprises role as C.S. Lewis, debuts new play at Erskine
Actor and playwright David Payne, who charmed audiences at Erskine College in 2022 and 2023 with his portrayals of C.S. Lewis and Winston Churchill, will return to Erskine’s Memorial Hall stage April 22 and 26.
Payne will perform his one-man play An Evening with C.S. Lewis. In the play, Lewis speaks with wit, humor, and candor about the experiences that shaped him, including his friendship with J.R.R. Tolkien and his marriage to Joy Davidman. The play is scheduled for Tuesday, April 22 at 7:00 p.m.
On Saturday, April 26 at 7:00 p.m., Payne will star in a debut dramatic reading of Livingstone and Stanley, a play about 19th century missionary and explorer Dr. David Livingstone. The drama, written by Payne for Erskine College, will feature Erskine Professor Dr. Noel Brownlee as Henry Morton Stanley, the New York Herald reporter who traveled into the interior of Africa in search of Livingstone.
Tickets for both plays are on sale now and may be purchased at the links below. An Evening with C.S. Lewis is $15 per person, and the dramatic reading of Livingstone and Stanley is $5 per person.
