Study Early Childhood Education at Erskine
Children are affected deeply by experiences in their first few years in school. Good teachers help shape their view of adults, of learning, and of the wider world. That’s why Early Childhood Education matters!
Make a Difference
Would you like to be one of the teachers who nurture children through their formative years? Consider a major in Early Childhood Education at Erskine College. Help children develop a love for reading, writing, and basic math, along with social skills and good learning habits.

Experience and Mentoring
Education faculty members at Erskine care deeply about their students and seek to cultivate in them the same care for children. At Erskine, we believe teaching is not a mechanical process but a skilled craft you learn by practice and mentoring. That is why, from their freshman year onward, under close supervision of professional teachers and the college faculty, Erskine education majors spend an abundant amount of time in active school classrooms practicing the skills that make a great teacher.
Certification
The Early Childhood Education major prepares students for certification to teach pre-kindergarten through third grade. Erskine College’s Education program prepares teacher education candidates to assume professional positions as certified teachers in public schools in South Carolina.
Accreditation
Our Teacher Education Program is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and approved by the State Board of Education. The program was previously accredited by the National Council of Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Erskine teacher candidates who obtain South Carolina certification are usually eligible for reciprocity in other states, and Erskine alumni are certified teachers in Texas and California as well as all nearby states.
