Psychology professor honored by SCICU

Assistant Professor of Psychology Dr. Briana Van Scoy was one of 20 professors from member colleges honored at the South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (SCICU) 14th Annual Excellence in Teaching Awards Dinner April 9 in Columbia, S.C.

Each year SCICU recognizes outstanding faculty members from each of its 20 member schools. Recipients are honored at an annual award dinner and each is given a $3,000 professional development grant.

Van Scoy, who joined the Erskine College faculty in 2013, holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the Fuller Graduate School of Psychology. She has also been awarded two master’s degrees from Fuller, one in psychology and the other in Christian leadership. She received a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Grove City College.

At Erskine College, she serves as chair of the Faculty Executive Committee, a position for which she was nominated and elected by her faculty colleagues. She is also director of the Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation minor, which involves helping students learn how to implement solutions to social problems using self-sustaining business models.

She is noted for her mentorship of psychology students, including students who seek careers in the field of mental health as well as those who seek to publish research or participate in regional psychology conferences.
