Featured artists to speak at Bowie Arts Center reception Nov. 2

A reception celebrating two intriguing exhibits at the Bowie Arts Center—“The Word Made Visible” by Grace Carol Bomer and “Piercing the Veil” by Brian Hibbard—is set for Saturday, Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Planned in conjunction with Erskine’s rescheduled Homecoming activities, the reception will include presentations by the artists from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Brunch hors d’oeuvres will be served from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
“Grace Carol Bomer’s concern is the human condition surprised by the grace of God,” according to the artist’s website. “The Incarnation is the focal point of her work. It is a visual reminder of God’s extravagant grace.” Bomer works out of her Soli Deo Gloria Studio in Asheville, North Carolina.
Bomer is thankful that more than 80 of her paintings were being displayed elsewhere at the time of the recent flooding in the Carolinas. “My second-floor studio stayed dry, but we cannot access our building as the lower floor is destroyed,” she says. “I am donating 30 percent of any sales to Asheville Flood Relief.”
Brian Hibbard’s work was recently displayed at the Bowie Arts Center in the multi-artist exhibit “Jubilant Fields and Captivated Heights.” According to the artist’s statement, “There is a necessary balance between what is real and our freedom to create, interpret and explore within this reality.”

Explaining that “the act of creating art is a reflection of my prayers and devotions,” Hibbard, who lives in Anderson, says of his current exhibit, “As Christ was crucified and his body torn, so was the veil that separated the Holy of Holies. Through his Spirit we begin to understand the prophetic scriptures and are given the privilege to share the gospel.”
The mission of the Bowie Arts Center is “To bring art and people together through meaningful exhibitions that integrate the Christian faith and in the provision of engaging community programs.”
