Erskine College is pleased to host the Fourth Annual Garnet & Gold Forum, an evening focused on Christian thinking in a secular society.

This year’s speaker is Mr. Joe Allen, whose recent work addresses transhumanism and the impact of Artificial Intelligence. Focusing on the topic of truth and education in the age of AI, Allen makes the case for preserving our human culture in the face of relentless transformation.

Ebenezer Erskine Pressly served as the first president of Erskine from 1839-1847, served as a professor, and served simultaneously as pastor of the Due West Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.

William Moffatt Grier, president of Erskine College from 1871-1899, was widely known for his brilliant mind, innovative educational leadership, and efforts at reconciliation in the aftermath of the Civil War. The Grier monument on the Erskine campus is reputed to be the first statue erected in honor of an educator in the South.

A noted historian, Dr. Joab Mauldin Lesesne was the first president of Erskine College and Seminary to hold a Ph.D. and the first president to have a majority-Ph.D. faculty. He served as president from 1954-1966.

J.I. McCain, who taught at Erskine from 1882 to 1930, was the first member of the faculty to hold a Ph.D. The library on the campus is named for him.
