Dr. Jason Huddleston (known by his students as “Dr. Hud”) is Associate Professor of English, focusing on modern British and world literatures. His teaching specializations include courses on film and television, weird and speculative fiction, and the use of narratives and visual media to address global issues. He has over three decades of full-time experience teaching college English courses.
Research and Projects
Huddleston’s writing is multifaceted. Academically, he has written and published on such interests as modern Native American fiction, the horror genre, and the representations of femininity and masculinity in contemporary visual media. His current academic project explores the role of intergenerational relationships in the YA novels of John Bellairs.
Creatively, he writes and publishes original weird and speculative fiction under the pseudonym “Eldritch Thrum.” An anthology of Eldritch Thrum short stories in currently in production. He also writes, publishes, and performs original lyrics and music under the stage name “dr. hud.” His most recent project—an album entitled mere—is currently available on all streaming services. On YouTube, you can watch music videos he created for two songs from this album: “Falling Down” and “Specious.”
Professional Accomplishments
Huddleston recently presented a paper in Atlanta, Ga., at the Pop Culture Association. The paper was entitled: “The Mysterious, the Macabre, and the Mentors: A Gothic Appreciation of Intergenerational Relationships in John Bellairs’ Barnavelt, Dixon, and Monday Series.”
Personal Interests
Dr. Hud’s interests range from the sociable (engaging people; listening to and performing music; shopping at flea markets) to the solitary (reading, hammocking, watching films, writing music and stories, and whitewater rafting).
