Erskine College Professor of Philosophy Dr. David Reiter, who joined the faculty in 2007, has been named president of the South Carolina Society for Philosophy (SCSP). His installation took place at the society’s annual meeting Feb. 25 at Coastal Carolina University.

This year’s meeting featured a keynote session on “Philosophy in the Public Square,” Reiter said. He noted that Professor David Holiday, Ethics Fellow at the Jackson Center for Ethics and Values at Coastal Carolina University, was elected vice president of SCSP.

In his role as president for 2017-18, Reiter will be expected to deliver the presidential address at the 2018 meeting, which will be a joint meeting of the South Carolina Society for Philosophy and the North Carolina Philosophical Society.

“I’m thankful to the Lord for this opportunity to serve and to represent Erskine College in the wider philosophical community,” he said.
