Profile
Daniel “DJ” Freese serves as Assistant Golf Coach at Erskine College. He returned to the Flying Fleet coaching staff after previously competing for Erskine from 2022 to 2024 and serving as a student assistant coach during the 2024-25 season.
Freese earned bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration and Sports Management from Erskine College. He later continued his playing career at Columbia College during the 2025-26 season while completing his Master of Business Administration (MBA). In December of 2026, he will graduate from Clemson University with a Masters degree in Athletic Leadership.
Before joining the Erskine coaching staff, Freese gained several years of coaching experience at the high school and collegiate levels. He volunteered with the golf programs at Abbeville High School and Dixie High School, and during his time working with the two programs, they made multiple state championship appearances, won two region championships, and helped develop multiple All-Region and All-State players. Freese was part of Dixie High School’s 2025 SCHSL Class A State Championship team. He has also worked extensively in junior golf, including several summers with the South Carolina Junior Golf Association.
In 2026, Freese was selected to the Allstate NACDA Good Works Team, one of the top national community service honors for college student-athletes. Freese was one of only 20 spring student-athletes selected from 137 nominees across NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, and junior and community colleges. The award recognizes student-athletes who demonstrate outstanding leadership and achievement in community service, academics, and athletics.
