Reports and Disclosures

Reports & Disclosures

The Higher Education Act of 1965 (HEA), as amended by the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 (HEOA), includes many disclosures and reporting requirements. A disclosure requirement is information that a postsecondary education institution is required to distribute or make available to another party, such as students or employees. A reporting requirement is information submitted to the U.S. Department of Education or other agencies. Disclosure and reporting requirements sometimes overlap. For certain topics, institutions are required to make information available to students or others and to submit information to the Department of Education. Such information includes general institutional operation, financial aid, general completion and graduation rates, annual security report, completion and graduation rates for student athletes, and athletic program participation rates and financial support.

Erskine College is committed to the principle of promoting access to information that will allow consumers such as students, parents, counselors, researchers, and legislators to make informed decisions about post-secondary education. This web portal provides a single access point to all federally mandated reports and disclosures.

It is the individual’s responsibility to know and follow current requirements and procedures at the departmental and college levels. For additional information, including requesting a paper copy of any materials, please call or email the appropriate office.

Final regulations implementing the legislative provisions for consumer information are available from the Federal Register’s website. Below is a list of disclosures provided by Erskine College pursuant to these regulations.

  • Federal Perkins Loan
  • Federal Direct Loan
  • Federal Plus Loan
  • Private Loans

Students must complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) at https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa in order to be eligible for federal financial aid.

Students, parents, and borrowers are required to use a FSA ID, made up of a username and password, to access certain U.S. Department of Education websites. Your FSA ID is used to confirm your identity when accessing your financial aid information and electronically signing your federal student aid documents.

State Aid Programs:

  • South Carolina Tuition Grant (need-based)
  • South Carolina Hope Scholarship
  • South Carolina LIFE Scholarship
  • South Carolina Palmetto Fellows Scholarship

State need-based student aid programs also use results from the FAFSA to determine eligibility for state funds. In order to receive the South Carolina Tuition Grant, students must complete the FAFSA by June 30th each year.

Erskine College Scholarships and Grants

Merit-based scholarships are awarded by Erskine College to undergraduate degree-seeking students who are enrolled full time. The scholarship awarded is determined by the student’s GPA and SAT/ACT score. Scholarship amounts may change based on financial need, college GPA, and residency status. Erskine College also offers other institutional scholarships such as athletics, music, theatre, and art scholarships for students that meet the academic and ability criteria.

Once the student’s FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is received, scholarships and grants are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis, and funds are limited and subject to change based on availability of funds. Students will be emailed an award letter showing the amount and type of financial aid awarded. Should changes be made to a student’s award package, he or she will receive an updated award notification.

Erskine College Endowed Scholarships

Caring friends and Alumni of Erskine College have contributed money to be used for scholarships. The Development Office, in conjunction with the Financial Aid and Admissions Offices, oversees the awarding of endowed scholarships and can answer questions about the process and individual scholarship information. Scholarships are awarded based on criteria set by the donor and are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. These scholarships do require a student to write a thank you note to the donor and recipients are also required to attend a luncheon in honor of the donors. Erskine College appreciates this private support for our students.

Applying for Financial Aid: Procedures and Forms

There are many different sources of financial aid available to qualified students. It is best to complete and mail all required forms as soon as possible since most aid is awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis for qualified applicants. Before you send in your FAFSA application and financial aid forms, refer to our checklist to make sure you have everything you need for your application to be processed in a timely manner.

Financial Aid documents can be found on our website: https://www.erskine.edu/admissions-aid/financial-aid/

Disbursement of Financial Aid

Financial Aid is disbursed by releasing two payments over the academic year (one each semester) for traditional students. At the time of disbursement, the student must meet eligibility requirements (academic progress, expected enrollment, financial eligibility, etc.). Funds will be applied to the student’s account after the semester’s drop/add period and enrollment is confirmed. If student aid funds are in excess of account charges, a credit balance occurs of which will be paid to the student within 14 days of disbursement. If a student or parent wishes to cancel a loan within 7 days of the first day of class, he/she may do so by emailing the Financial Aid Office at taylor@erskine.edu.

A bookstore credit may be available prior to disbursements to purchase books and supplies for students expected to have an excess of loan funds and complete a Title IV authorization form.

Federal Work Study

Federal Work-Study provides part-time jobs for undergraduate students with financial need allowing them to earn money to help pay educational expenses. If you are awarded Federal Work-Study, please go to our website: https://www.erskine.edu/admissions-aid/financial-aid/work-study-program/
